Submit! More effective ways to get action

Submit! More effective ways to get action

Submit is hardly a pleasant or appealing word to use when asking someone to do something. Its certainly not a word I use with my friends & family and I wouldn't expect a store assistant to ask me to submit.

I looked at the sign-up practices by over a 100 of the top retail websites. The word Submit was the was the second most popluar button text for subscribe forms. The most popular choice was Signup.

This is the full set of call to action text on email subscribe forms analysed

Subscribe form call to action text

Call to action copy, whether in links or buttons is key copy on any webpage. The right text will make a significant difference to the number of customers who take the action.

I quite often see calls to action text tell what action to take and when to do it aka the favourite of Now.

Our customers know buttons are for clicking and don't need to be told this. The best approach to button text is to explain what value will be gained by clicking it.

So rather than Submit or Subscribe now explain the benefit that will be gained from clicking the button, for example Send me exclusive deals or Get the free tips.
